Maple BBQ Hasselback Kielbasa Bites

Ingredients

Find below the list of ingredients I used to make my Maple BBQ Hasselback Kielbasa Bites. Scroll down to the Substitutions section if you need help with ingredients options.

  • Ukrainian Garlic Sausage ( 2 x 300g-375g rings)
  • Maple Syrup
  • Brown Sugar
  • Tomato Ketchup
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Salt
  • Garlic Powder
  • Apple Whiskey – Smak Dab Mustard or Whole Grain Mustard
  • Mayonnaise
  • Parsley (optional garnish)

Instructions

Start by preheating the oven to 420F and lining a baking tray with parchment paper.

  1. Cut the sausage rings into straight pieces. Place the pieces in between two wooden chop sticks. Make ¼ inch cuts into the sausage, cutting down to the chopsticks.

  1. Place the chopsticks aside and cut the scored sausage into ¾ inch pieces. Place all of the pieces into a large bowl and set aside.

  1. Make the Maple BBQ sauce by combining all of its ingredients into a small sauce pan.

  1. Whisk the sauce over medium heat until it start to bubble. Se the heat to low and simmer for 2 minutes until slightly thickened.

5. Set ¼ cup of the Maple BBQ sauce aside and pour the rest of the sauce in a large bowl with all of the Hasselback Kielbasa Bites. Toss the pieces of sausage in the sauce until well covered.

    6. Use a pair of tongues to place the Maple BBQ Hasselback Kielbasa Bites on the prepared baking tray, shaking off any extra sauce before removing from the bowl. Bake for 18 minutes turning over the sausages half way through.

      7. Create the dipping sauce by whisking together the reserved ¼ cup of Maple BBQ sauce and any extra sauce from the sausages, with the mayonnaise.

        8. Server the Maple BBQ Hasselback Kielbasa Bites on a plate with the dipping sauce. Sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley as a garnish option.

          Substitutions

          • Sausage Rings - Try making this recipe with similar styles of skinny sausage rings like turkey or ham if available in your grocery stores.
          • Sugar Free Syrup - Feel free to use Sugar Free Maple Syrup, to help cut down on the sugar content of this recipe.
          • Greek Yogurt - Replace the mayonnaise in the dipping sauce with Greek yogurt for a different and slightly more nutritious variation.

          Storage

          Store any (unlikely) leftover Maple BBQ Hasselback Kielbasa Bites, into an airtight container. Place in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

          • 750 grams Kielbasa Garlic Sausage 2 x 375g rings (see notes)

          Maple BBQ Sauce

          • ¼ cup Maple Syrup
          • ¼ cup Brown Sugar
          • ¼ cup Tomato Ketchup
          • 2 teaspoon Apple Cider Vinegar
          • 3 tablespoon Wholegrain Mustard
          • ½ teaspoon Salt
          • ½ teaspoon Garlic Powder
          • 2 tablespoon Mayonnaise

          • Set ¼ cup of the Maple BBQ sauce aside and pour the rest of the sauce in a large bowl with all of the Hasselback Kielbasa Bites. Toss the pieces of sausage in the sauce until well covered.
          • Use a pair of tongues to place the Maple BBQ Hasselback Kielbasa Bites on the prepared baking tray, shaking off any extra sauce before removing from the bowl.
          • Bake for 18 minutes turning over the sausages over half way through so that they do not burn on one side.
          • Create the dipping sauce by whisking together the reserved ¼ cup of Maple BBQ sauce and any extra sauce from the sausages, with the mayonnaise.
          • Server the Maple BBQ Hasselback Kielbasa Bites on a plate with the dipping sauce. Sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley as a garnish option.

          Notes

          Kielbasa Sausage Rings: 
          Please make sure to buy the rings where the sausages are around 1 inch in thickness. This recipe will now work if you use the larger garlic sausages which are over 2 inches in thickness.
