Ingredients

It is always amazing, when only a few ingredient paired together, can create such a punch of flavor. Here is what I have used to make my Hot Honey Brussel Sprouts.

A large glass bowl containing honey, crushed garlic, and hot pepper flakes.
  • Brussel Sprouts
  • Liquid Honey
  • Chili Flakes
  • Fresh Garlic
  • Olive Oil
  • Salt

See recipe card for quantities.

How to prepare Hot Honey Brussel Sprouts

Start by preheating the oven to 400F with an oven rack in the middle position.

A large bowl of cleaned, and halved, brussels sprouts.

Clean and dry the brussels sprouts. If there is any browning at the root, cut off very little, just enough to remove it. Keep the root intact, in order to prevent the sprout to fall apart when cutting them in half.

A large glass bowl containing liquid honey and hot chili flakes.

Whisk together the liquid honey, chili flakes, crushed garlic, and oil. Once emulsified, place the brussels sprouts in the bowl and toss to coat evenly.

Coated brussels sprouts before going into the oven.

Place the coated brussels sprouts on a baking tray. Sprinkle with salt. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, flipping them over half way through.

When caramelized, take out of the oven and place on a serving plate. Top with crumbled goat cheese, and toasted sunflower seeds. Optionally, you can add fresh or dried cranberries to add a bust of color to this dish.

Substitutions and Variations

  • Mild Version - Remove the chili flakes from the recipe for a milder result.
  • Bacon - Crumble bacon bits on top of the brussels sprout after placing on the platter.
  • Nuts - Add a bit of crunch by sprinkling on some toasted pieces of walnuts or pecans instead of the sunflower seeds with the goat cheese.
