How to make Turkey Sweet Potato Chili

- Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add ground turkey and cook, breaking it up, until lightly browned and cooked through. Season lightly with salt and pepper.

- Add onion and bell pepper to the pot. Cook for 4–5 minutes until softened. Stir in garlic and tomato paste; cook for 1 minute to caramelize. Add chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, cinnamon, and cayenne. Stir constantly for 30 seconds to release aromatics.

- Add crushed tomatoes, broth, sweet potatoes, and beans. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a gentle simmer. Cover and cook for 25–30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until sweet potatoes are tender.

- Stir in apple cider vinegar or lime juice. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Simmer uncovered for 5 minutes if a thicker consistency is desired.
Storage
Store the cooked turkey sweet potato chili by allowing it to cool completely before transferring it to airtight containers. Refrigerate for up to 4 days, noting that the flavor will continue to improve as it sits. Freeze individual or family-size portions for up to 3 months, leaving a bit of headspace to allow for expansion. Thaw frozen chili overnight in the refrigerator, then reheat gently on the stovetop or in the microwave, stirring occasionally and adding a splash of broth or water if needed to loosen the consistency.
