- Texas toast ? Use brioche buns, ciabatta rolls, or garlic bread for a different texture and flavor.
- Lean ground beef ? Swap for ground turkey, chicken, or plant-based meat crumbles for a lighter or vegetarian option.
- Bell pepper ? Replace with diced poblano, jalapeño, or zucchini for a different flavor profile.
- Cheddar cheese ? Try mozzarella for a milder melt, pepper jack for spice, or smoked gouda for richness.
- Brown sugar ? Replace with honey, maple syrup, or omit entirely for less sweetness.
- Yellow mustard ? Try Dijon or spicy brown mustard for more tang.
- Hot sauce ? Use sriracha, chipotle hot sauce, or omit if you prefer it mild.
Variations
- BBQ Sloppy Joes ? Replace ketchup with your favorite BBQ sauce for smoky-sweet flavor.
- Tex-Mex Style ? Add black beans, corn, and taco seasoning; top with salsa and sour cream.
- Philly-Style ? Use ground beef with sautéed mushrooms, onions, and provolone instead of cheddar.
- Buffalo Twist ? Replace ketchup with buffalo wing sauce and serve with blue cheese crumbles.
How to make Texas Toast Sloppy Joes

Preheat the oven to 425F in order to bake the frozen Garlic Texas toast. Follow the instructions on the package.

- Drizzle a little oil in a large non-stick skillet on medium heat. Add to it, the ground beef, onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Break down the beef and cook fully.

- Add to the cooked beef, the ketchup, brown sugar, salt, chili powder, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and hot sauce. Stir and bring to a simmer. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until desired consistency.

- Use a spoon to divide the meat mixture on top of the baked Texas toast.

- Sprinkle a little bit of grated cheese on top of each sloppy joes toast. Return to the oven just until the cheese has melted.

Storage
Store leftover Texas Toast Sloppy Joes by separating the beef filling from the Texas toast to keep the bread from becoming soggy. Place the beef mixture in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat the beef on the stovetop or in the microwave until hot, then serve on freshly toasted bread for best texture.
