Top Tip
Prepare extra egg mixture when using a denser bread like brioche for French Toast. Increase the ratio of eggs and milk or cream to ensure the slices soak up enough liquid for a custard-like texture. Add a pinch of cinnamon, vanilla, or sugar to enhance the flavor and complement brioche's natural sweetness.
Substitutions
Customize your French toast to suit your tastes or dietary needs with these easy substitutions and variations. Whether you’re looking to mix up the flavors or accommodate specific preferences, there’s a way to make this classic dish your own!
- Milk Alternative: Swap regular milk for almond, oat, soy, or coconut milk for a dairy-free option.
- Bread Options: Use brioche, challah, sourdough, or gluten-free bread for different textures and flavors.
- Spice It Up: Add a pinch of nutmeg, cardamom, or pumpkin spice for a unique flavor twist.
- Added Sweetness: Add maple syrup, agave, or honey to the milk mixture.
- Fruity Flair: Stir in citrus zest or top with fresh berries for a refreshing kick.
Storage
Cool the freshly cooked Cinnamon Vanilla French Toast completely on a wire rack to avoid sogginess. Place the cooled slices in an airtight container or wrap them individually in plastic wrap for easy portioning. Refrigerate the French toast for up to 3 days if storing short term.
Freeze the slices for longer storage by layering them with parchment paper in a freezer-safe bag or container. Reheat in a toaster, oven, or skillet to restore its warm, crispy texture and enjoy it just like it’s freshly made!
