How to make the French Toast
Use thick cuts of bread when making French Toast to better absorb the custard. Try to buy an unsliced brioche loaf, french bread, or sourdough for best results. If you can not find unsliced bread, then a Texas Toast Sandwich Bread would work best.

- Slice the bread in 1 to 1 ½ inch slices. Keep the ends so you can make delicious pan fried croutons with olive oil and herbs.

- Make the custard by combining in a bowl, the eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, and instant espresso. Whisk until smooth.
Preheat a large griddle at 350F or a non-stick frying pan on medium heat. Use butter or non-stick spray on the surface before placing on the French Toast.

- Place each slice of bread in the custard for 20-30 seconds. Use a fork to press the bread into the custard if using a day-old bread to help it soak up most mixture. Let excess custard drip off the soaked bread.

- Place the French toast onto the preheated and greased griddle or pan. Cook for 3-4 minutes, or until golden brown. Turn the French toast over and for another 3 minutes or golden. Remove from the griddle and repeat with the rest of the soaked slices.
How to Make the Coffee Cream

- Place the softened brick of cream cheese in mixing bowl. Use a hand mixer to mix the cream cheese until completely smooth.

2. Add the instant espresso, granulated sugar, and heavy cream to the bowl of cream cheese.

3. Mix with the hand blender to incorporate ingredients until light and aery. If you want a lighter cream, add a little bit of heavy cream at a time until desired consistency has been reached.
Serve the prepared Coffee Cream over the warm Tiramisu French toast and garnish with the chocolate shavings. Top with more of your favorite toppings like maple syrup, icing sugar, or fresh cut strawberries.

Substitutions
- Cream Cheese - Use Mascarpone instead of cream cheese for a more authentic flavor to the coffee cream. Reduce the amount of heavy cream if using mascarpone and adjust for your desired consistency.
- Instant Espresso - Replace the instant espresso with instant coffee, just making sure that it dissolved properly, and you add as much as you like to get the desired taste.
- Sourdough Bread - Use Baguette, Brioche bread, or a french bread.
Storage
Allow the Tiramisu French Toast to cool to room temperature to prevent excess moisture buildup. Store the French toast and coffee cream separately for the best texture. Place the French toast slices in an airtight container, layering them with parchment paper to prevent sticking. Refrigerate for up to two days to maintain freshness. Keep the coffee cream in a sealed container in the fridge and rewhip if needed before serving. Cover the toast loosely with plastic wrap or foil if already topped with cream to avoid smudging.
Reheat in a low oven (300°F/150°C) or a skillet over low heat until warmed through. Add the coffee cream just before serving for the best taste and texture.

Notes
- Use Mascarpone instead of cream cheese for a more authentic flavor to the coffee cream. Reduce the amount of heavy cream if using mascarpone and adjust for your desired consistency.
- When using cream cheese, I usually take it right out of the fridge and very slowly microwave it 15 seconds at a time until softened. If you end up overheating the cream cheese this way, the final result of the coffee cream might be too soft. In that case, simply refrigerate the cream for 20 minutes and rewhip it and it will work just fine.
